If you’re headed to Portland for EmberConf 2018, I have some suggestions on things you might want to do in the city.

You Want to Take Something Home

Visit Powells Books

Visit Powell’s Books, the largest independent new and used bookstore in the world.  They host over 500 author events per year, so check their schedule to see if anything is happening that weekend.

1005 W Burnside St, Portland, OR 97209

Shop at Made in PDX

This space sells items made from local artists, designers, makers.  Take something home with you. 40 NW 10th Ave, Portland, OR 97209

You’re Hungry

Have Tacos at Mayas Taqueria.

They don’t have a website or Instagram, but their address is 1000 SW Morrison St, Portland, OR 97205.

Have Anything At the Adler Street Food Cart Pod

Portland has over 500 food carts.  If you’d like to find a mix of authentic food from Egypt, Thailand, Mexico, or India, this is your bet.  I think the food trucks are better than most restaurants in Portland, and it’s cheaper too.

S.W. 10th Ave. & Alder St., Portland, OR 97205

You Need To Get Some Work Done

Work at Tea Bar

Need to get away from the conference and get some work done? Tea Bar has fast wifi (use your VPN of course), and plays music like SZA and Frank Ocean in the background.  It’s also well lit, with beautiful plants.

I love the energy at Tea Bar.

You Want To Hang Out With Plants

Hike Through Forest Park

I have not done this yet, but it’s on my list of things to do since relocating to Portland.  I’ll update this article once I have the change to take my Canon EOS m6 there.

Portland, OR 97231

Explore the Japanese Garden

This is also on my list of things to explore in PDX. It looks so beautiful and relaxing.

611 SW Kingston Ave, Portland, OR 97205
