Hello from Porto, Portugal! I’ve been working remotely here for 3 weeks.  It’s been a nice stress release, being in a sleepy town full of warm people.

I started on the code portion last week, but I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to build for the past few months.  Most of the process involved me sketching out notes on some of my favorite UIS, paying attention to what apps I like, and deciding who my users are.The fun part about creating your own projects is that you can work in whatever technologies you choose.  In this episode, I dive into my decisions to user React and Rails 5 in API mode.

One of the things I love about creating my own product is that I get to decide how I want to pieces of the puzzle to fit together technically.     In this episode, I dive into my decisions to user React and Rails 5 in API mode.

My biggest takeaway from recording this episode: I’m only allowing myself to work on this project on the weekends and 1 hour a week max during the week. Here’s why:

“I think that while building projects on the side, it’s still really important to show up with intention to your 9 to 5 job.”

I’m excited to work on my own business, but I think it’s important to show up for my current employer too.
